Proteus Rock Star, Peter Southwick, muses on what may or may not come from the new AV2 standard announced this week.
This week the IEEE and HomePlug Powerline Alliance released the new AV2 standard. The AV2 standard supports gigbit speeds over the AC wiring in your home. The plan is that appliances that have networking and AC power requirements will have the hardware and software installed to allow plug and play with a single plug (the AC power cord).
This presents an interesting dilemma. WiFi adapters are ubiquitous today, they are part of all the networking devices and most are plug and play with the routers and firewalls that are part of most households. Why change the networking paradigm?
